#WCW ‘Karley Sciortino’ – An Exclusive By Myla Dalbesio
Why we love her:
Where to begin with Karley? We can hardly even pin down a job description. The writer, Vogue and Vice columnist, model, host, documentarian, actress, activist and professional over-sharer is giving us modern day Renaissance-woman vibes to the hilt. Just google her, pick one thing and read it, and we dare you not to fall in love. At once self-deprecating and congratulating, raunchy and intellectual, she is a real life Carrie Bradshaw with none of the shmaltz. Raw, fascinating, talented, the list of adjectives could go on and on. But what we love most about Karley is her boundary-breaking work on normalizing sex and sexual taboos, both educating people on safety and self-love and respect, while at the same time encouraging the populace to explore their desires and get what they really want in life (and in bed).
Completely self-made, she first drew attention through her blog Slutever, a catalog of romantic (and not so romantic) misadventures during her time spent living abroad in London. A transition back to the states came with transitions in her career as well, and soon she expanded far beyond the blog. She has fronted campaigns for major designers, served as a muse for famous artists, written and hosted her own television series, spoken on countless panels… the girl works. And all with a sense of humor. She keeps us laughing about topics society deems too uncomfortable or inappropriate to discuss, reminding us that sexuality can be inherently silly and fun, and that is healthy to discuss it. Keeping up an open dialogue on sex and relationships means continuously educating the public, and increased education means an increase in safety. And even if you’re not interested in threesomes or bondage, keeping people safe and happy is something we can all get behind.
