As Trump Admits Russia The Reason Behind Comey’s Departure, Voters Refuse To Believe Him
Trump has finally come out and admitted that the reason behind him firing FBI Director Comey was nothing else than the “fake news” and following investigation around his and his campaigns ties with Russia. But here’s the kicker – the Republican voters don’t believe him!
In a recent poll done by the Wall Street Journal & NBC, 63% of Republicans still believe the White House’s story on Comey’s poor handling of the investigation against Hillary Clinton as the reason behind his departure. In the poll conducted between the 11th – 13th May, 38% Americans believe Clinton’s emails are the main reason behind the Directors farewell.
Overall, the American public isn’t too happy with Trump’s decision to fire Comey – with only 29% of the American’s surveyed approving the decision, in contrast with the 38% whom disapprove. The results also turn out to be extremely partisan with majority republicans approving the firing, while majority democrats disapprove the decision.
However there is one slight change. 78% of all American’s surveyed said they were more comfortable if there were a special prosecutor or an independent investigation hired to investigate the ties between the Trump campaign and Russia, including a surprisingly high number – 68% – of Republican voters.
Since the incident, there has been a major push from the Democratic side to set up such a committee with the Republican leaders being quick to push back.
