Rather Than Wait For Expert Advice, POTUS Is Looking Set To Opt Out Of The Paris Climate Agreement
The President has yet to appoint someone to head the Science & Technology department, and yet he’s hell bent on coming to a final, un-knowledgeable, decision over the Paris climate agreement.
With Trump being backed by Steve Bannon, White House counsel Don McGahn, and the recently appointed EPA Administrator Scott Pruitt, who considers global warming a non-existential threat, the President is pushing the argument that the Paris Agreement never guaranteed to save lives.
Trump’s business advisory council which consists of notable business leaders/ civilians, whom help him make crucial decisions, also includes the Tesla and SpaceX founder Elon Musk. Upon tweeting on the agreement and the president’s denial over the same, Musk has made it clear that he would vacate the position of both the manufacturing job initiative council and the advisory council.
With Musk making his opinions publicly known, it’s really important for Trump to know how, atleast, his chosen advisers feels about the Paris climate agreement, and why they find it safe enough to sign the agreement.
Furthermore, the lack of an appointed head of the American science and technology department not only results in unnecessary confusion during these tumultuous times, but also affects each and every aspect connected to making properly researched and analyzed scientific decisions for the White House.
Rush Holt, CEO of the American Association for the Advancement of Science said he could seldom have a conversation with the President over the federal budget and the scientific community. The recently released budget included massive cut off’s, worth billions, away from medical research that had the potential to saves lives, not withstanding the positive impact it would have on the economy (among other potentially devastating cuts to scientific research across the government).
It’s about time Trump starts to look towards appointing proper officials first before making life-changing crucial decisions on behalf of the country.
