Audi’s Latest All-Electric Model Set To Give Tough Competition To Tesla
Audi’s all-electric concept vehicle, the E-tron Sportback was debuted at the Shanghai auto show, promising super-futuristic looks, along with some awesome specs.
The Audi E-tron Sportback is a crossover SUV with a 4.5-second 0-60mph time, along with a 95 kWh battery pack which gives the vehicle an impressive range of 310 miles.
The automaker is looking to have the new electric car hit the market in 2019, with the vehicle being one of the three all-electric vehicles that are a part of Audi’s big plan to take a sizable share of the electric vehicle market by 2020, along with having a quarter of its total range equipped with EV batteries by 2025.
The automaker has been pursuing an go-to market electric vehicle strategy very aggressively, much likes its parent company, Volkswagen, whom only a couple of years ago received unneeded negative attention since it was typified for its diesel emissions scandal. The E-tron Sportback is looking to give some strong competition to its counterparts in the same car categories, especially as it showcases its full potential to attract a range of buyers. Either way, it would be great to see this vehicle competing with Tesla’s gull-wing luxury electric SUV, the Model X.
The Quattro E-tron, Audi’s first electric concept vehicle, which it introduced back in 2015, is set to begin sales in 2018. Along with the E-tron Sportback, which is looking at a 2019 sales window, Audi is aiming to fill the gap within the electronic vehicle segment.
The interior features of the E-tron Sportback make the Audi a sight to behold. The vehicle has been loaded with high-resolution touchscreens: one behind the steering wheel, two in the center console, and a few more scattered around the vehicle. The vehicle has digitally controlled matrix LEDs installed at the front and rear of the car producing “an excellent light yield,” while miniature digital projectors “literally make their mark on the road ahead, turning light into a multipurpose, dynamic channel of communication with the surroundings.” In other words, the Audi logo isn’t going to be only thing glowing in the front of the car.
Finally the E-tron Sportback also comes installed with strategically positioned cameras which show real-time images to displays built into the interior of the car’s doors, giving you a 360 degree view of what’s going on all around.
