‘Apple Park’ to open soon

Apple announced today that is nearing the opening of its new campus – ‘Apple Park’.

Built on a sprawling 175 acres, the new campus is expected to open to employees in April. Apple will be looking to move 12000 of its employees into the new campus, which they estimate will take them all of six months to manage. While employees will be able to move in starting April, Apple does expect to continue construction on its buildings and parks all through the summer months.

Built in partnership with Foster + Partners, the new building is completely energy self-sufficient and is going to be the worlds largest naturally ventilated building, projected to not require any heating or cooling for nine months of the year. The entire building has a ring-shaped design, and has been covered entirely with the world’s largest panels of curved glass.

The building, built keeping Steve Jobs’ vision in mind, will have a 1,000-seat auditorium named in his honor. The theatre is situated atop a hill, which is one of the highest points within the campus, keeping in mind Jobs’ preference and love for the open setting of California. As Laurent Powell Jobs,“Steve was exhilarated, and inspired, by the California landscape, by its light and its expansiveness. It was his favorite setting for thought. Apple Park captures his spirit uncannily well.”

“Steve invested so much of his energy creating and supporting vital, creative environments. We have approached the design, engineering and making of our new campus with the same enthusiasm and design principles that characterize our products,” said Jony Ive, Apple’s chief design officer.

The new building is set to include a massive 100,000 square foot fitness center for its employees, a secure R&D center along with a visitors center, apple store and cafe, the latter three being open to the public. This Cupertino giant has definitely put in a lot of time, thought and effort to build this beautiful campus. This campus is set to be a beautiful sight and we’re definitely feeling a little jealous here on this side of the border.
