American Student Trapped in North Korea Released
Accused of attempting to steal a propaganda poster from his Pyongyang hotel room while on a visit to North Korea, Otto Warmbier, aged 21 and a student of University of Virginia had been sentenced to 15 years of hard labor in North Korea in March of 2016.
With regards to the same, Secretary of State Rex Tillerson made an announcement revealing that the U.S. had managed to secure his release. “At the direction of the president, the Department of State has secured the release of Otto Warmbier from North Korea. The Department of State continues to have discussions with the DPRK regarding three other U.S. citizens reported detained.”
A phone call was made to President Donald Trump by Tillerson, informing him of the negotiated release of the student at 8:35 am ET. He further added that Warmbier was on his way back home to the U.S.
“Take care of Otto” was what Trump said in reply, stated an official.
